Jessica Fries-Gaither’s Exemplary Evidence: Scientists and their Data (2019)

Looking for a great way to engage students in the power of data, why/how we use data in science, and examples of how scientists have used data?

Check out Jessica Fries-Gaither’s Exemplary Evidence: Scientists and their Data (2019)!

This book is beautifully illustrated (by Linda Olliver), making it aesthetically engaging to follow the long-form poetry across 23 pages as Fries-Gaither explores what data are, why we need data, how we use data, and examples of previous uses of data. The content of “data as evidence”, which can often feel dry and boring for students, is anything but in this engaging journey of using data in science.

It is a quick read, but also provides great opportunities to dive deeper into different stanzas and explore the need for, importance of, and excitement from data.

Although rated for Grades 3-5, I would recommend this book for K-grey!
